Regardless of the degree of sophistication of the electronic part of the controller, the precise and stable control of the rotational speed of the unit is totally dependent on the quality of the design of its hydraulic part and the mechanical accessories that act directly on the unit. The generators and turbines must be constantly supplied with clean and fresh water and lube oil to operate properly. Knowing how to pump, filter and cool down these fluids, economically and reliably, in a well-integrated system that will operate 24/7 for years without a hitch requires a specialized know-how that can only be acquired through experience. The interconnecting piping between the various systems and the turbine generator unit must be designed and planned carefully in order to minimize the installation costs without impairing the access to the components and to facilitate their maintenance. Important savings are possible by prefabricating some piping sections to be assembled later on at site.
